Subject: New Pension Options
Effective immediately, there are 3 new pension options for members retiring under the SRDF, as follows:
 
5-Year Minimum Single Life Pension - An actuarially reduced Basic lifetime pension, which will be paid for at least 60 months.  Should the member die prior to receiving 60 monthly payments, the beneficiary or estate will receive a lump sum equal to the present value of the outstanding balance of the 60 payments not yet made.  Should the member die after 60 monthly payments have been made, no further payments will be made to the beneficiary or estate.
10-Year Minimum Single Life Pension - An actuarially reduced Basic lifetime pension, which will be paid for at least 120 months.  Should the member die prior to receiving 120 monthly payments, the beneficiary or estate will receive a lump sum equal to the present value of the outstanding balance of the 120 payments not yet made.  Should the member die after 120 monthly payments have been made, no further payments will be made to the beneficiary or estate.
15-Year Minimum Single Life Pension - An actuarially reduced Basic lifetime pension, which will be paid for at least 180 months.  Should the member die prior to receiving 180 monthly payments, the beneficiary or estate will receive a lump sum equal to the present value of the outstanding balance of the 180 payments not yet made.  Should the member die after 180 monthly payments have been made, no further payments will be made to the beneficiary or estate.
 
These new options will now be included in pension estimate requests.  A supply of new Pension Applications, which include the new options, will be mailed to you shortly.

ALL CLAIMS (DENTAL & HEALTH CLAIMS) WITH THE EXCEPTION OF SHORT TERM DISABILITY CAN NOW BE SENT DIRECTLY TO MANULIFE FINANCIAL.  SHORT TERM DISABILITY CLAIMS MUST STILL BE SENT TO THE ADMINISTRATION OFFICE ON BORDER STREET IN WINNIPEG.

 

DENTAL CLAIMS CAN NOW BE SUBMITTED ELECTRONICALLY, YOU WILL NEED TO ADVISE YOUR DENTIST OF THIS CHANGE AND GIVE THEM YOUR NEW CONTRACT NUMBER (80570 AND YOUR 4 DIGIT ID NUMBER).

THE CONTRACT RENEWAL DATE WAS JUNE 1, 2010 AND THE CARRIER IS REQUESTING AN INCREASE IN PREMIUM RATES.  THE TRUSTEE’S HAVE ASKED THAT THE RATES REMAIN THE SAME WITH A REVIEW TO BE DONE IN SIX MONTHS WITH THE HOPE THAT THE EXPERIENCE WILL HAVE IMPROVED AND THE REQUESTED INCREASE WILL NOT BE NECESSARY AT THAT TIME.

 

 Due to continuing rising costs in dental and health benefits the Carrier has requested a premium increase in the amount of $10.00 per person per month effective August 1/09.  There has not been an increase in the premiums since April 1, 2006 and improvements were made to the dental, health and short term disability benefits in 2007 the Trustees have agreed to the increase along with improvements to the following benefits.  LTD premiums remain the same at this time.
